Hi guys, I have a nano 5 gallon with 2 blennys in it that I caught at the beach (please no lectures about how this is illegal and I need a license) I didn't know that at the time. They have been in my Aqueon 5gallon nano for about a month now and they are fine, other than that they rarely come out of their hiding spots in the (dead) coral if I put food in the tank or sometimes just randomly at night I see them swimming around .

My question is: they don't seem to be eating the algae in the tank like they should, they're being picky and wanting fish pellets or flakes. should I stop giving them fish food so they have to start eating the algae in the tank? Slowly ween them off? They are the only fish in the tank.

ALSO: anyone can confirm that these are indeed algae/sailfin blenny?

What coastal location did you find them at?

Edit: Kind of looks like "Molly Miller"

They are doing very well, just they only want to eat the fish flakes and pellets, not the algae that i provided for them. Thats the whole point of the question.

Yeah i love the lawnmowers, ive never had one but everytime i see them i want to buy him right away, but i know he wouldnt work in my tank anytime soon.

Ive had people suggest molly miller, and i think that might be it, because some are drastically different colors than the others (some dark, almost black, some golden, and some normal like the photo above, ill try to take individual pics when possible. And my boss blenny (the alpha) has a little orange head of hair that i find so adorable, which i see on pics of "molly miller" blennys

I think the bottom pic is of the darkest blackish one. Still need a pic of the one with orange head of hair

Absolutely, they are blennies. Top photo is a pearl blenny (Entomacrodus nigricans) and the other two are molly millers (Scartella cristata). Good find on the pearl, those are cool.
