I got this kamohara blenny two days ago and it is sleeping where the water is getting sucked to get filtered.

Is this behavior normal?

They like to hide in cracks and caves. If you don't have any other good options in your tank, this may be the best it can find. It's also possible that it's in a weakened state and is unable to fight the current.

In either case; no - this is not a good situation, I wouldn't think. Depends upon the fish's behavior during feeding and such - if it isn't eating and stays in that area, that's a pretty good sign that something is wrong...

Is he out and about during the day and just sleeps there...or does he hang there all day??

He is swimming during the day. I woke up this morning and he was floating upside down and was white. Looked at my parameters and they were ok. I did a 30% water change and put some frozen brine shrimp in the tank. Now he is swimming and looks healthy. I also have corals in the tank and they are healthy. Why would the blenny float upside down and look dead?

Im not sure.... #reefsquad

Upside down is not normal. Did you get any pictures at the time? Might be a swim bladder issue, or... not sure... Checking with the #reefsquad

(@reef lover - gotta' make sure to put a space before the hash for the tag to work. Fought this the other night for 20min before I figured out what was going on... <grin>)

He died this morning when I turned on the light. Everything was fine then 2 minutes later he started floating upside down and turning white. My corals are healthy and my parameters are perfect

Don’t know what I did wrong. [emoji29]

I am confident he had some sort of parasite/ disease. A small qt tank will do you wonders in the future...sorry for your loss....

Could have been just about anything. Absent external symptoms, pure speculation that it was a parasite. More likely collection or shipping stress, some kind of internal injury or bacterial infection ..... or even malnutrition. It is not a good sign when any fish gets pinned to the overflow.

I went back to the fish store and they said the fish had just been acclimated to their tank when they sold it to me. They say it probably died of shock of changing aquariums so much in a short amount of time
