I have a true percula clownfish that I have had for about a year. He has been hosting my frog spawn for a majority of that time. I can get a pretty good deal on a blizzard clown and I'm curious if I can put them together. They are about the same size (very close). Any info/advice would be great.

Thanks,
-Kevin

As long as they are not both females you should be fine. When pairing any clowns you should keep an eye on them just to make sure they accept eachother. Assuming they are both male or both unsexed and being about the same size, they may fight a little until one establishes dominance over the other and the dominant one will become the female. Just watch them closely and have a contingency plan just in case it doesn't work out. An acclimation box would be a good idea as well.

The bigger of the two usually will become female if it isn't already. Rule of thumb is that when buying individual clowns separate times, you either buy one that is bigger than what you already have or a lot smaller than what you have.

How can I tell if one is a female?

Its based on size and its relationship to other clowns. If you have a 2" clown that's been alone for 6 months its probably a female. I have a 2.5" clown thats a male because its been with a 4" female for over 4 years. If clowns are small and in a group they are most definitely still male.

I guess I'll just put it in my frag system and try to find it a mate. I would have the lfs order a smaller one but it's not through an lfs. Thanks for the input guys

try them in a small tank together if the get along great just be prepared to separate them if things go bad
