Bloated puffer?

Long story short... I treated this Dogface Puffer for velvet and he is now in a conditioning tank before I rehome. (He still has a little Lympho on the body which you can see in the picture.)

He's sort of a finicky eater (for a puffer); will only eat PE mysis, freshwater glass snails, and clams & mussels. The latter two I give him to ensure his beak stays trimmed. However, about a week ago I noticed a large chunk out of the shell of a snail I forgot I had in there. Ever since then he seems to be getting fatter & fatter, and now looks "bloated" to me.

What do you think? If he does have a piece of shell stuck in his stomach, what (if anything) can I do about that? TIA

Try some high fiber food, to get the digestive system running normal again

I used to keep quite a few puffers and never noticed them get hung up from shells. I would have to say this is something they encounter quite often in the wild. I would just personally moniter, if a shell is indeed lodged there probally isnt much you could do unless your a proctologist with a vast knowledge of fish inards

Humble, I wouldn't think a puffer would have too much trouble with a snail.

What treatment did you use for the velvet?

Chloroquine phosphate. I tend to get a lot of puffers to treat because the Petco employees call me whenever they have a sick one. All of the puffers I have treated with CP have handled it fine.

My little one wants one and I do have the extra bio 29 sitting in my dining room while I decide what to do with it!
Isn't he to big for that? How big will he get?

Quite large lol. A foot or so long. So one turd would clog a BC filter lol

Yeah, you'd probably need at least a 180 to keep one long-term. This one is even more personable than usual for a puffer. He eats out of my hand while my wife scratches his head. Will have to take a video.

Yes please and whats the condition? Im sure the bloating appearance could just be a fat happy fish. My dogface was quite friendly. The golden puffer not so much. And the stars and stripes was a total....well jerk..
