I've been having issues keeping blonde naso tangs and hoping those that have actually owned them successfully can chime in.
I have purchased 3, 1 from divers den, 1 from Live Aquaria and the latest from Blue Zoo. All lasted between 4 and 8 weeks and I am almost certain they are dying from starvation. They have all come fairly healthy with full backs and adequate sized stomaches, 1 was a little pinched. I feed LRS reef frenzy, NLS pellets and hikari mysis along with nori sheets. None have eaten the foods I provide, but they are eating the lobophora algae that is growing in my tank and the primary reason for wanting the fish. They are the only known thing that eats it.
My tank is a 150G Red Sea max 650 and I already have a purple and Kole tangs. I know they suggest 180+ and 6 to 8' tanks for naso tangs, but my lobo issue is more pressing of an issue for me. The purple is the most aggressive and gives the newcomer the hardest time. The new fish have a been approx 4" which is about the same size as the purple. The aggression level is minimal and after a few days all but gone so I don't think the fish are still stressed, but perhaps I'm reading the situation wrong.
I'm looking into some other foods to try and debating if I should go larger for the naso. I have read under 6" they are more delicate.
Any thoughts, help or tricks you can think of is greatly appreciated!
