Hey guys -

I got a few questions about these lights specifically ... I need an upgrade and I was thinking LEDs but don't want to pay a fortune for them. Lots of options on eBay for the Chinese boxes... bloomspect seemed to stand out the most..

I tried to do some research on them but no luck..

Can someone with personal experience in buying these and using them PM me please?

Would appreciate it...

Thanks!

I would look at Mars Aqua, its a more well known brand. I would Buy SBreef lights. A better light form just a bit more money. WITH an actual warranty from a guy you can talk to with a USA brick and mortar.

Cool I'll check them out. I tried searching for SBreef lights but couldn't really find anything - are they big modules or just small lamps?

Can you maybe put a link up?

There a 16x8 box like the chinese ones. But they do offer a couple smaller goodies.

What is considered "breaking the bank?" Current USA has a light with good PAR out out and spread for around $200

I've been looking at Current but I wanted something a little higher from the tank to give me room to move around in there without having to remove the lights.. can't hang them either given my situation

I'm also thinking about a moonlight so if I do end up getting the Chinese boxes, the money I'd spend on the moonlights amounts to buying a more expensive one :/

It's always tough figuring out the right upgrade in this hobby lol

moonlight
dont. fish need sleep and coral needs rest.

were I to recommend a light for that id say an SB ramping. I don know what tank its so I dont know what size. The current is good too and more powerful, depending on the tank a used kessil is darned good.

The SB is POWERFULLL

I have a 48" long tank so I was thinking of getting either one big fixture that compares to my 54x4 watt bulbs or 2 small boxes like th Chinese ones

Two things, aesthetics are a consideration.
A current strip is low profile, all boxes look like boxes, kessil 360 pucks etc so its a choice there.
Par, kinda want to estimate what you have now, hanging height and manufacturer of the fixture and tubes as well as the age of the fixture would be needed for an est. Its a good thing to know no matter what you finally decide on to insure you don't accidentally underpower the tank from wht you have now. A chineses BB or SB reef light and some of the radions DEF have more PAR than most all t5 fixture. An AI Hd for example def doesn't.

The mars aqua are great for the price and two of the 165 ones would cover your tank really well. Only thing I would say is, if I'm reading your post right you can't hang the lights, these Only come with hanging wires so work out how your going to suspend them. They are quite chunky so need something substantial to hold them up.

Age of the fixture I'm not sure. I want to say a couple years. The bulbs are all less than a year old. The fixture is on brackets and about 8 inches from the water line. My tank is only 16 inches deep. They are all ati bulbs

I was looking into suspension kits and some DIY ones I can make

Sunspect just changed the name to Bloomspect. I have the sunspect and the newer version bloomspect. I have no issues with them at all. I have a very mixed reef with great growth and colors. I have the ones with built in timer. Which means they also only have one cord. I paid around $105 each. They come with a remote that makes programming very easy.

As far as how they work, the timer just controls an on and off function? Does it control an on, at a certain %, and automatically ramps up to a higher %, and goes back down before it shuts off?

I'm assuming there's no "moonlight" feature on it? The tank lights are completely off when the timer shuts them off?

Do you use anything extra for a moonlight effect?
