Just got this firefish shipped yesterday. Drip acclimated but bypassed quarantine for reasons I'll go into only if your curious. This morning he has a few brown/red blotches on both sides.

Guessing infection..? Treatments?

Looks like something got him. Any bristleworms in your tank? Crustaceans with claws?

Crustaceans: Skunk Cleaner shrimp, pistol shrimp and 3 scarlet hermits. I've not seen any bristleworms in there but it's not out of the question. I've dipped all new corals in Bayer, would bristle worms make it through that?
As far as stinging, no anemones. He was hanging out in a corner with a galaxia coral that does have a fairly long sweeper tenticle. Seems like a stretch though... hmm.

Might have gotten too close to the pistol shrimp and got popped.

You're probably not going to be able to catch him, so best bet is to start soaking fish food with vitamins to boost his immune system: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/vitamins-herbal-remedies.304287/

If you can catch him, then he would probably benefit greatly from either an acriflavine or Methylene Blue bath.

And then into QT for possible antibiotic treatment if it starts looking worse: https://www.reef2reef.com/threads/antibiotics.283711/

I'm second that your firefish got shots from pistol shrimp cause firefish hide during night time and went into or go near pistol shrimp burrow. I never miss my pistol shrimp, its cause trouble more than anything else in my tank.

Oh man!! That's a whole thing. Now, what eats pistol shrimp? ;)

The fish species that eat pistol shrimp probably will eat and kill everything in your tank lol so best just net or trap it if you really want to get rid of it.

Bottle trap it

Dang, you beat me to it. I actually made one of these to catch 3 peppermint shrimp that started eating my lps and softies back in April. Took maybe 10 min to get all three in there. Assuming it will take a little longer with the pistol shrimp who is way more skittish.

Thanks everyone for the advice!
