Hi I noticed mucus and blotchy white patches on my 2 yr old extreme misbar clown. Im not sure if it is Brooklynella. Breathing seems normal and eating habits have not changed. I also see the same patches on my dottyback that I added a few weeks ago. I would appreciate some help and any recommendations on treatment. Thank you

Brooks is so deadly I would treat the tank prophylactically ahead of diagnosis. Best of luck!

I'm going to jump in with velvet. or brook.. In either case - I woudl rapidly - put the fish into a hospital tank - treat with copper and wait

It’s brooklynella. The indicator is the amount of mucus the fish produces
FW dip for 5 mins will offer temporary relief but treatment will be in a quarantine setting using formalin based medication such as quick cure
If not Available, ruby rally pro will also work but take longer
With quick cure, start with a 45 minute formalin bath and then treatment
With ruby, 60/90 minutes ruby bath and then regular treatment
The longer you treat the more effective treatment will be

While it can as with other parasites be, it’s not deadly as made out to be
Naturally the longer you wait, the higher the risk

It does look like the start of Brooklynella, but dark clownfish show mucus like that pretty easily, sometimes in response to general stress, and sometimes for no apparent reason at all.

The dottyback may have something else going on, it looks really tattered. Did it arrive to you like that, or have the clowns been picking on it?

Agreed with the others that you shouldn't delay getting something set up to treat for Brook - a hospital tank is the best (but not the easiest) option.

I haven’t seen the clowns instigate any aggression and have been quite lucky with the dottybacks temperament but i believe the fin tears are from him digging under the live rock (he created some kind of cave and quickly darts under). I am heading to the store to purchase a 5 gallon tank to quarantine the fish. Should I quarantine all 4 of the fish in my aquarium or just the fish showing symptoms? Thank you.

You may have some problems getting all your fish into a five gallon tank on the fly like that. Do you have any seeded biomaterial that you can use to jump start the nitrogen cycle in the new tank?

I'm still worried about the tattered dottyback - unlikely to have injured itself on rocks, that is their natural habitat...

So i managed to catch all the fish and they are acclimating to a 10 gallon qt tank right now. I don’t have anything to cycle that doesn’t include using rocks or filters from the exposed tank. Im prepared to do water changes and I picked up some metroplex from my lfs. I’ll begin treating soon. Any other recommendations or suggestions?

Metroplex wouldn’t be my choice to treat Brooklynella, formalin is better.
Remember, you can easily use filter pads or substrate from your DT to help with cycling your QT…these don’t have anything on them that your fish didn’t already carry into the QT. just avoid calcium products when using copper.
