Has anyone ever seen this? The guy I got it from said that it was super-rare and it took him over a year to find. I like it because it grows pretty fast and adds a nice powder blue color to my tank.

Hydnos are definately nice LPS corals often commonly mistaken for SPS. I used to have a green one that took a while for me to find. that is the first blue hydno that I have seen though. Gorgeous specimen worth being extremely proud of.

Thanks. An under-rated coral for sure. I just have to be careful not to let it get too close to any of my sps.

Yea, those sweapers can be long. I have only seen mine about 5" long, but I have read of other reefers seeing 10+" sweepers. That is a lot of bare space. but worth it.

No kidding 10 inches! Every time I shine a light at this one at night its actually retracted and has no sweepers.

That is lucky. I'm sure one of these days you will get to experience the power of its weepers. I lost an acan frag to mine before I realized how aggressive it really was.

What is that? do they lay dormant for awhile before putting out sweepers? Ive had this thing eight months and no problems

Honestly, I don't know. Mine has always had sweepers out atleast once a week. Maybe you just haven't seen them yet or its not as aggressive as the green ones for some reason.

Ill have to keep a closer eye on it and report back. I have it within and inch or two of some acros and I've never seen any damage.

I have never seen my green hynophora do any damage to surrounding corals, nor have seen long sweepers, but always keep an eye on it because I've heard that they can really do some harm. I;ve had it for about 6 months. Never seen a blue one before, it looks awesome.

Thanks. Now Im even curioser. Does something cause them to put out sweepers at certain times and not others. Malnutrition?

very good looking coral! For the most part at night and whenever they sense food in the water column.

Mine pretty much just has polyp extension like you see in the picture. Then at night the polyps retract back to the skeleton.
