I put a blue diamond goby in my tank about a week ago. He was healthy active and eating really well. I noticed yesterday he didn't leave his cave at all not even for food. This morning I found him barley alive with a big sore on his side. He then died shortly after I found him. I'm not sure if this is just a sore or something else. His tank mates are a flame angel, gramma basslet, and cleaner shrimp. There didn't seem to be any aggression from the other fish or at least any I noticed.

It looks to me that he was either getting beaten up or wedged himself in between rocks and got stuck, thrashed, and unstuck himself causing the wound. #reefsquad any other suggestions? @Humblefish

Do you guys think I should worry about the other fish? They don't have any scrapes or sores on them.

Almost looks like he starved to death. And when his body started shutting down a bacterial infection took over. Hence the red spot. He died Awfully Skinny IMO

-Zack, In My Opinion.

He was awfully skinny when I got him but he ate really well while I had him. I'll keep an eye on the other fish. What scares me is how fast he went from doing good to dead.

Gram negative bacterial infections can kill faster than velvet in most cases. Even if they are caught very very early, it's still difficult to cure them in time. Sorry for the loss.

I agree that’s likely a nasty infection, and it doesn’t look like it was eating as well as you thought, that’s more than a week without food, most likely.

Sorry for your loss!

Is it possible theres a pistol shrimp in your tank? I found one four years after the last piece of live rock went in. He must have been a baby when introduced to my tank. Did you use any wild live rock?

Same exact thing happened to me with my flame Angel. I bought him and had him for a week, he looked perfectly healthy and was eating every day. Then one day I got home from work and he was hiding under a rock with my diamond goby. He died hours later. I was shocked at how fast he went from perfectly healthy to dead in a matter of maybe 6-8 hours.

Turned up being a gram negative bacterial infection.
Unfortunate for the flame Angel, but none of my other fish were affected.

Sorry for your loss.
