Blue Face Angel Diagnosis

Hi Folks,

I have my Blueface angel in quarantine now in Cupramine (3-4 days now). I started noticing a discoloration on him. Is this a reaction to the Curpamine? I fear it is HLLE..... (above eyes on both side)

HLLE is not usually 'acute' I.e. - did it look that way when you got it - or is that new. Either way - as I'm sure you're aware - its hard to tell - with aquarium photos - what is going on. It would be helpful if you showed the places where you thought are 'discolored' - and how big the fish is (i.e. I assume this is a juvenile) - which makes it even more difficult - where are the places that you're concerned about?

While that does look like HLLE, the fish’s color also seems a bit subdued, and in the last pic, I can see it is a bit skinny. How well is it eating? Are you at full dose with the Cupramine?

Only a few times, always when carbon was used in a reactor or sand filter. In one case at a public aquarium, the fish eroded so badly they died from it.

No, I think about 14 days is the fastest I’ve ever seen it start to develop, with 30+ days being typical.

He definitely did not look like that 3 days ago (watched photos of before). He has been in theraupetic copper for there days now. He was in quarantine for over a month with praziq and metro so I definitely noticed what looks like HLLE from the last 3 days. He is a juvenile Blue Face. The places I am concerned about are both cheeks, and the forehead area behind and above both eyes.

Jay, he was eating great before Cupramine. Appetite has slowed down since dramatically.

IDK then, it looks thinner in just 3 days. Cupramine shouldn’t have that effect at all. You didn’t add any reducing agents did you? Prime, Amquel?

No reducing agents, prime or amquel as I have heard that will make the copper more toxic. He is in hypo though (salinity 1.011)

Hmmm, I’ve never run hypo with copper, so I can’t speak to that as a variable.
