Blue-Green Chromis. Should I be Concerned?

I’ve got three small Chromis in QT. I’ve noticed a spot on one which doesnt look like it shouldn‘t be there. The area around it is very slightly lighter color and at certain angles it look like a depression. He is so quick, these are the best pics I could get. He’s quite active an eats like a pig. The spot is centered on his side both vertically and laterally.

They have been in QT for a week. Currently only meds are CopperPower which just went up to 2.5 yesterday.

Not seeing anything that jumps out but you can add Ruby Rally Reef as a safeguard. Other used product is Formnalin which I would not use until/unless true uronema pops up. Having Chromis, I would secure quick cure to have on hand

It could just be some disrupted scales from having bumped into something. However, green chromis are really prone to Uronema, and this could be the start of that.

It looks like a small depression when I can get it to be still. The three of them are pretty rowdy with each other. Could he just be missing a scale in that spot?

what is Rudy Reef Rally used for. I’m not familiar with it.

It isn’t super contagious, but often, chromis in the same group may develop it. Unless the lesion breaks open with a red sore, fingers crossed that it isn’t it.

I read your article and I do have Chloroquine Phosphate. I’ve never used it, but have it available. Would need some guidance for the dosing. If the one does have it and goes down, I’d like to save the other two that are in there with it.

It looks like missing scales to me. It seems that I have read on R2R that lots of times having multiple chromis leads to them killing off all except the last survivor. I would research that.

Thanks. Right now they are in my QT. Just got them last week. They will be in QT for about 6 more weeks and it’s just the three Chromis. If I have to treat one, they all get treated.

Sorry, Chloroquine won’t work with intercellular Uronema, neither will those dips.
Im hoping that isn’t the issue here as there really is no effective treatment.

Jay is correct on the Ruby Reef products regarding Uronema. I was only responding to his question asking what they were.

This is sounding like it’s a sit, wait and watch issue. Other than that little flaw, it seems to be quite healthy. I do have some Neoplex and Melafix on hand If needed. I’ll continue with my normal copper and PraziPro treatments and watch for an change in his appearance.

With chromis, wouldn't it be best to start them in an observation only tank? If majority of them have Uronema and its shown to be untreatable, why even treat them at all? Seems like Uronema gets triggered by stress, so wouldn't it make sense to just feed them well and add them to an environment that is stress free?

Probably so, but I had already started the copper treatment before I noticed the flaw on its side. They all seem happy and healthy, so I will continue, but will give it a week or so before I introduce the PraziPro. If anything bad developed, I will go from there. From what Jay is saying, it’s more of a possibility versus a probability. I’m thinking observation, but continuing copper treatment.

Update on my Chromis. Well, I guess my favorite guidance is still always the best. Sit back, smoke a lucky and don’t over react. I’ve watched it now for 5 days and whatever it was is completely gone. It’s scales and color look perfect.

My thoughts are it might have been a scale out of position or a piece of food stuck on its side. What ever it was, it’s gone and he’s just as feisty as ever. It may not always work, but I love the watch and wait technique. He’ll be in QT for another month, so I can react later if needed.

I've got a couple chromis in my QT now too.

I started them off with a 1 hour formalin dip/bath and then into QT for 30 days copper/prazi.

When I picked these up at WWC, they had just come in, so WWC had not done anything with them. Is Formalin something I should be doing (have done) with them? They have been in QT for 10 days now on copper and their first Prazipro dose started 2 days ago.

I'd just keep them in the copper and prazi.

Formalin is supposed to help treat/prevent uronema, which is prevalent in chromis, so I put mine through a formalin bath as an extra precaution. But it isn't necessary. In your case, I'd just continue your planned QT since it sounds as if things are going well already.
