hello, I've had this blue green sympodium for a few months and it seems to go through phases where it doesn't love life, then comes back strong and I wonder if it's going to take over the tank..

but in looking at it today it almost looks like half of it is dying and almost jellyish? stay tuned for worlds worst iphone pics. it is right above a torch coral that has super long polyps, maybe stinging it?

move it? dip it then move it? leave it along? burn it with fire? pour bleach in tank and start over?

edit: god those pics are bad. it's basically just grayish but there's almost some jellyish looking stuff on top of the gray areas

Lol I think burning it might be overkill :p it could very well be being stung. Maybe move it out of the way if the torch. I would rinse off the dying tissue in some saltwater, probably don't need to dip it.

ok gave it a move, now it's probably a little too close to a galaxea :eek::eek::eek: lol

i don't get how people cram corals in so close without stuff killing everything off. is this more of a LPS issue?

Lol, galaxea, hydnophora, platagyra and torch have some of the longest sweeper tentacles.

Most people grow other corals if they want to pack them in tight.

i dont have any hydnophora or platagyra, but yeah the galaxea is not kidding around. that thing sends out sweepers at least 8 inches. the torch's polyps are really long too, but the blue green sympodium was like above it and behind it, truly a ****** move to give it the zap.

i knew i'd have to give the euphyllia some space, but hot dang.

i did find out putting a goniopora frag next to a frogspawn results in a bummer of a day for the frogspawn. however galaxea next to annoying palys results in nothing.

I am a softy kinda girl so I dont know how LpS people work their magic. :)

i kinda started with LPS, tried a couple SPS, failed hard, now going backwards to softies. I gotta get my hands on some nepthea, sinularia, and that reef builders weeping willow toadstool oh my.

i love the euphyllias, but my desire to cram stuff in there probably won't work well with them all over the place :p

If you can put the corals with sweeper tentacles "downstream" of the other corals that usually works out better.

i tried to do that with the torch below the sympodium, hah. i underestimated how long the tentacles would be on that thing. i have a different torch thats only like 1-2" long, this one seems to get longer every day
