What happens to velvet once that fish dies? It dies too? Just curious..., so i got an aiptasia problem on my live rocks BUT all those rocks are gonna be tossed in a large container without water since im setting up a 125 reef tank with better looking purple rocks, etc.(I got PLENTY of dry rock) can i throw a fish in there? Is a 6 inch blue hippo in this 75(temporarily only, hes in quarantine from a trustworthy seller) would my hippo get killed by those tiny aiptasias? Thx

I believe the velvet can survive and be transmitted in water or wet items from a tank where an outbreak has occurred. Seems like the bug will die after 72 days of no hosts? The aiptasia will not harm the tang.

Velvet, Amyloodinium, has a resting state where it can remain viable in an aquarium without a fish host for some time - 45 to 76 days, depending on the water temperature and some personal opinions.

No, aptaisia can’t kill a fish - Or so I think (I’m still suspicious of the aptaisia I left to repropagate for a CBB has eaten my old female black photon clownfish). A tang won’t be food to aptaisia though, I wouldn’t keep the blue (Assuming P. hepatus) in a 125 long term though since these guys do truly need the 8’ long swim room long term but I assume you have a plan for when the tang gets to about 8”. I agree with above in that velvet can lie dormant for anywhere from 40 to 80 days long depending on temperature and other things in the tank.
