well i have a canon rebel xti and use the stock lens it came with...it can take good pics from about i think 6-12 inches away with good detail. There is an option for close up shots and i set mine on autofocus. If ur wanting to get a more detailed pics ud prob have to get a specialty macro lens that can take close up shots of ur tank. Im sure others will chime in, im not a camera guru but ive done some research on the macro lens cause im wanting one to take some pics of my corals.

i just learned..when doing led shots white balance makes a huge differance, i cant tell you exactly how to get to the white balance screen on you camera, but it should be in your manual, with my canon powershot s90 i set it on underwater mode and vivid, in underwater mode (if your camera has it) while your still over the underwater mode logo click display(if you have that button) it should take you to a square with 4 colors on a differant sides, magenta, red, green, and blue, move the dot around until you get the color you want, my bust shots have came from between the color i want and the center dot, hope that all mad sense

Macro lens make a HUGE differance in a photo of your coral

lol well i was just messing around with it and i have no clue where to find the white balance...
