I bought a blue matrix coral form yourreef.com about 6 or so months ago. It looked just like the others I've seen in the past but in the last 3 months, it now has red polyps! The coral looks amazing but I never saw red polyps on any others I've seen. I'm working on getting a photo but I don't have a camera with the proper lens. Is this a different coral or can the corals morph into something different under certainty parameters?

I'm not an expert but I don't think there's much of a chance that's blue matrix. Awesome piece regardless

The structure of it looks pretty spot on, but I've never seen a Tyree Blue Matrix ever do that. This piece loves light so I'm sure it's not a problem with bleaching, I also looked up the blue matrix on their site and the one listed is def legit. Have you changed any filtration or increased water changes lately? Do you feed the tank anything extra for corals?

I added a gfo and carbon reactor in the last 3 months and everything in the tank is doing really well. I wish I could take a solid picture but those are with my iPhone in white light. The feeding has been the same other than biokit reef.

Adding gfo and carbon at the same time most likely stripped the water of nutrients and this piece is reacting to it. Overall it appears ok so I would just keep an eye on it. Sorry I can't give you a more clearer answer as to why it did that.

What kind of par is it in? The coloration kind of looks like the underside of mine that doesnt get light. I could be wrong though as im not looking at mine while looking at your picture at the same time

I have 2 3rd gen r30 pros. The one thing is that I have it mounted at an angle facing the front of the display. The red polyps are threw out the whole coral. Great polyp extension on the pic above. Maybe I should change the position to be vertical.

I think this piece is nicer than the Tyree Blue Matrix. The corallite structure on your frag is much different than the Blue Matrix. I believe you have a Pink Matrix, pretty sure it is an Acropora Vermiculata. I have one from Battle Corals that looks identical to yours.

If this is Your Reef in Roseville than this is the OG Tyree Blue Matrix. John was one of the original people to have this.

I stand corrected! Thanks beer man, I checked my records and it was purchased from Aqua sd. Everything I've gotten from your reef is OG especially my favorite (superman) monti.

Wow! It looks very similar. I think you nailed it, a different type of matrix. Mine actually came from Aqua SD, not your reef.

That's interesting, if it came from ASD it's most likely not the blue matrix. ASD has nice stuff but he deals with more maricultured pieces.
