Just bought a baby maxims clam at reefapalooza. I put it on the rock to the left of it but it ends up on the sand after a couple hours, is this a good spot for it? Or will leaving it on the sand be Ok?

That's a nice maxima, Congrats! I'd leave the clam where it is, if it was happy on the rock it would start laying it's byssal threads. Lighting and flow can also make the clam "jump" from it's spot to find a more comfortable place. It's small so I'd let it acclimate on the bottom for a while before trying to move him.

So it doesn't have to be on a rock? Ive only seen them on rocks.

They can be happy in either areas. You can also try putting it on a small flat rock on the sand bed so when it comes time to move the clam all you have to do is move the rock.
