Blue neon goby has white stuff all over it

Any thoughts?I know the picture is terrible. But one of my neon all the sudden has this white stuff coming off it like it shedding.

Pictures are blurry, but my guess is that it’s late stage ich. In this case, all fish should be treated in copper in quarantine for 30 days, and the tank should remain fishless for 60 days.

Where did you read this? I have kept neon gobies on and off through the years and never had one look like this. I don't see why this would be considered normal for them.

It sounds like a mucus production from some sort of parasite or secondary bacterial infection or it is just excess mucus production from an unknown cause...if it is mucus plugs but no real virulent disease, it can go away on it's own.

If it is something like brook then I think the clowns would be sick too.

He honestly looks like he is shedding. I have another neon in there and a few cleaner shrimps I would think they would handle most parasites. I also haven't added any live stock since the end of December.

I look at my tank everyday for several hours. Last night he was blue without any sign of anything. Then today he's covered head to tail with looks like he scales are coming off. I have had ick once before several years ago and it didn't look like this. Thanks for your reply

I have read that too. There was another thread about a week ago in which another neon had what looked like ick.
To be honest, I have had a neon goby for about a year. About a month after I got it, it started to exhibit a ick like appearance and it went away (there would be no way I would ever be able to catch him back then). Then another time several months later the same thing. I did nothing both times, because by the time I psyched myself up to tear my tank apart it was gone. I have several other fish in the tank and no one got sick.
I am not going to tell you that everything will be ok or not to do anything about it, because that would be irresponsible. Every situation is different. If you can separate him into a QT then great. If you can run an UV on your tank, great. Watch your other fish if at the first hint of anything affecting them then pull them all.
