Blue Phataria Starfish Diary

This thread is for my new Blue Phataria Starfish ( Phataria unifascialis), So far everything is going well, It ate some chopped White Fish while being acclimated (I watched the stomach slowly consume the food) and now it is in the rock-work. I will be sure to get pictures once a week and every month or so i'll measure it with a ruler! I hope this starfish does well, it's like the 5th i've tried!

Alright so first update/post, Added to tank yesterday, ate a baby Cerith Snail (yeah surprising I know!) and hid in rock work. The star appears to be coming out the rock work so tomorrow I will snap a picture and attempt feeding White Fish again.

@code4 doing we so far, It moved a bit last night and now I can see it. It appears to be moving 2 inches every night I assume it's consuming all the food in those areas and goes to the next section of the rock. The arms look "fat" and aren't "deflated" and it still has that beautiful coloration, Hopefully it'll stay this way for another year or two

Crossing my fingers with you. I have a sand sifting starfish. Had it for years. But want one with door. What have you done differently this time?

@code4 2 starfish i've had we're alive for 4 months (added them at the same time) and they were doing swell till my Bi-Color blenny over nightly got a taste for Starfish He ripped them to shreds, I then got a Double Starfish which NO ONE knows the feeding requirements to so it ultimately died, Now I have this starfish which I acclimated for 6 hours, checked for parasites and I increased my water quality and so far so good. However something died in my tank and the water is VERY cloudy I just hope it survives through this

(My first starfish was a Massive 1 foot Blue Linkia, He survived 1 year and 2 months and just started falling apart one day)

It eats those tiny Pineapple Sponges... lovely, It has a food source now all I need to do is keep my salinity and pH stable loving this Phataria Star!

If it needs sponges in its diet try mega marine angel by Hikari. It has the most sponge in any food that I know of. I buy it online from Live aquaria. I also get chopped up clams from them. I am really bad at photos. The photo of my angel is as good as I get.

@code4 it honestly seems to eat everything I put near the mouth, It ate a baby cerith snail earlier and when I tried to feed my nassarius snails it crawled it's way over onto the clam I was feeding them. Colors look a little better i'll try the Mega Marine Angel just incase it requires sponge to survive

Make sure it says angel. They have a mega food without the sponge. And I love the chopped frozen clams also, hard to get them in Casper. I am planning on buying a drip acclimation system. They are inexpensive. And allows you to place the bag with whatever you are acclimating in the tank. I think it might be perfect for a starfish. First I have to free up my quarantine tanks. Did your water clear up?

With the amount of sponges and tunicate hitchhikers I have, it cleared up pretty quickly, When I left for school in the morning it was like milky but when I got back crystal clear as always, get that drip acclimate system! I drip acclimated mine for 6 hours and if you go for a starfish get a Phataria, so far its only only starfish that ate prepared foods for me.

That is good. I do not have many hitchhikers. Everything is mostly ordered online and put through a long quarantine process. Some I would enjoy having. I have a pair of very young red mandarins in quarantine now.

I will watch for updates.

@William Norman He's still alive and well! He has grown an appetite for Zoanthids though... However I don't really care about them but if you do don't get a Phataria Star
