Hi I am thinking about purchasing a single blue reef Chromis because I heard they pick each other off. Any tips for keeping them?

They can be tough. QT it and treat for uronema. Good flow seems to help them eat and acclimatize better.

Good Luck!

Agree with your thoughts. I started with three blue chromis and ended up with one. Definitely quarantine.

How big is your tank? If I were you I'd think this whole species of fish is too big of a risk to have due to them picking each other off and their very high susceptibility to uronema. Perhaps it would be best for you to consider another schooling fish, I'll leave it to the more experienced guys.

5 or more they will do fine.

I’ve had 6 in my 40b for a few days short of a year now. They have been great fish. I believe you need to keep more than 3 to help spread out any aggression to a single fish. But imo the most important thing is feeding multiple times a day, I feed 3-4x a day. They are swimmers and very active fish so they need to eat a lot, like anthias

And every fish needs it’s own (or multiple) holes in the rocks to hide and sleep in. All mine have their own little hole they always use.

I would suggest more than 5 but three could work. The goal is to spread the agression.

Do you think one would work with a 30 gallon. I dose no pox and have a stable protein skimmer for the extra food. Also what would be the best food for it

If not them any other blue fish that you think would work

They can be kept single

How likely is the blue reef cromy to get disease and die.

If it’s healthy when you get it it should be fine. Obviously it’s better to put them through a quarantine to make sure. I find they are pretty hardy fish. One would definitely be no problem to keep.
