Blue Reef Chromis

Im still debating all my stocking lists for my soon to be 75 gallon reef tank. I had a question about the Blue reef chromis, Id like to have 3 of them but are they like the blue green chromis and eventually kill each other off? Anyone have experience with keeping a group of these?

I have a 75 gallon and a yellow tang and foxface are a must to me..get along ..no issues. I have 2 blue/green chromis that are doing well also I tank....

Yes Yellow tang def. made the list! I was thinking about a purple tang but it needs way more room or its gonna be aggressive. Ive heard multiple things on keeping a yellow in a 75 but I still remember when that was their recommended tank size on live aquaria! I tried so many times in my 125 to have a group of the blue green chromis but it always withered eventually down to 1. the blue reef are a little different but Idk if they would be the same or not.

They can be aggressive for sure. I would defiantly keep in a group of odd numbers. You just never know how they will act with other fish. I made the mistake and bought two and within hours one killed the other.

That's a good list. I have a purple and a tomini tang in my tank. The purple is definitely the boss but doesn't mess with anyone really. I think the biggest problem people have are the same body style tangs. Like a yellow and a purp in the same tank. My tank is 5' long though so that may help.

Ya mines just 4 ft. I think that makes a big difference! I also read that the snowflake clowns eventually turn on each other, so Im thinking just 1 snowflake clown or maybe 1 platinum clown.

Thy killed each other? did you get chromis or damsles? everything I read online said they were peaceful-I may need to re think that too!!!

They were Blue reef Chromis which are in the damsel family.The aggressive one killed the other one. After that he started bulling the rest of the fish so he went by by.

Great selection, Im trying to sell my self the idea of a school of blue green chromis but those would look sweet!

I started with 5 blue & 5 blue/green chromis. The dominant blue killed all the other blues and 3 of the blue/green. The 2 remaining blue/green have to stay in their cave or else the blue comes running to bully them.

I've actually read experiences where the Blue reef chromis are more fragile than the typical green chromis. Survival rates are just not as good.

Thanks for all the input after reading all that Im just gonna have to pass. I like the deep blues but its not worth that I want a somewhat peaceful tank I have some fish I plan on buying that cost WAY too much money to take that risk! besides Im going to have a designer clown which is also in the damsel family and ill be darn if a blue reef chromis kills it! lol

Anyone hear of the red stop light cardinal fish being kept successfully in a small group?

Agreed.

the blue chromis (Chromis cyaneus) with the blue/green chromis (Chromis viridis) are not the same. The blue Chromis cyaneus are impossible to keep that I've experienced.

Ok so after ALOT of debating I think I am going to go for a small group of the blue/green chromis again... Ive heard of people have success with them and after extensive research I have not found one person to successfully keep a group of blue reef or more than 2 cardinal fish or any sm.group other than anthias (my tanks too small) or the blue reef chromis. I know its a hit or miss but at least they are dirt cheap and easy to replenish, I also think the coloring will go good with my wrasse tell me what you think
