Blue shells hrowing

Does anybody know what these blue things growing on my live rock are? And why are they growing?

It’s some type of macro algae. I had some and really liked it but my hermits and snails made quick work of whatever it was.

Not a great picture but I think it’s the same stuff? Where did your rock come from?

Yep, that’s how they start. Got my live rock at a local marine shop.

Y-branched algae. I had some and it got a bit out of control when my tank was young. Pretty cool though. I like the biodiversity even if its algae
