Does anyone know what might be causing these white patches? He eats well and is very active in tank.

Oh sweet heart... that looks like an infection of some sort. If he's still eating you can try feeding kanaplex with focus. It would be better if done in a QT however so the meds can be soaked directly in the skin. There is a combo of meds that would be the best bet.... Kanaplex, metroplex and Furan 2

That looks pretty bad, so make preparations and start treating asap.

Okay. Thank you!!!

How long have you had him? BSJ are very prone to "BSJ Disease" - Google it. The only way I've found to beat it is to treat with Kanaplex & Metroplex in a QT. Add a little sand to at least 1/2 the QT to make him feel more comfortable in there.

I've had him for about 2 mos now. I'm not sure how I can catch him, he's still very active.

Mine was too before I lost him. He ate and was active until the last two days of his life. He was gone that quick. Only difference was I didn't see any signs on his body until it was far too late and at that point didn't know what I was looking at. I just didn't look that close. That fish is the reason I started researching and learning as much as possible.

What should the SG/Temp be for a QT tank? I will be setting it up tonight. Meds should arrive tomorrow. I hope I can lure him out to try and catch. I will also try to at least soak his food in Kanaplax w/focus starting tomorrow in the DT. Hopefully that can maybe at least stop the progression of the disease.

Thank you guys so much for the quick responses. I hope I caught it in time to do something about it. This guy is so my favorite fish!

I've successfully treated a few BSJ disease cases now using the Kanaplex/Metroplex combo. The disease itself is a bit of an anomaly, having symptoms of both a parasite and a bacterial infection.

Are these meds reef safe? Ive had what I thought was ich in my tank for abt 6 months now, but the splotches on your fish look just like what happens to my fish on top of the ich..its a crumby cycle really...qt new fish...put in DT...all is good for a month...spots appear on nearly all fish...treat in main tank...all die...run fallow for 2 months only to have it start all over again. Im nearly ready to tear everything down and be done im so frustrated with it all lol!

Kanaplex/Metroplex can be made reef safe by soaking in food and using Seachem Focus to bind the medication to the food. But this is not as effective as dosing directly in a QT, and that combination is mostly useful for bacterial infections, brook & uronema. It won't help with ich or velvet or flukes.
