I know it’s soon but he seems a little skinny he is a tiny guy only a inch big he ate at the LFS I get majority of my fish from and I know he has been there for longer than a week

brought him home acclimated carefully dropped him in tank stress free no net

all he does is peck at the LR and my snails the guy said they just gave him a half clam shell few days ago so his teeth should be okay I dropped one in just in case..

but I have not seen him even show any interest in food he just passes by pecking at my snails and rock he did peck at a piece of mysis but spit it ouT this morning I checked on him before I turned the light on he was sleeping on the live rock so he did rest good sign

Is this usual for them to be like this? I know some fish act weird when first introduced but all my fish usually eats by the next day like pigs or at least show interest

It took a week for my dog puffer to even look at food. He did the same thing just looking for snails and picking at live rock. Now he'll eat mysis and even pick at the seaweed I put out for the tangs

Ok I that helps To relieve some stress lol I will stay patient with him..I love him! I just fear of starvation death I think that hurts me more than fighting a illness

It's pretty common for tobie puffers to stop eating when they are introduced to a new tank. This is normally just for a few days to a week, maybe two, but I wouldn't be overly worried because it is pecking at the rockwork and getting natural food. Mine did exactly the same then one day started attacking any food I added to the tank. I believe it's because they are more intelligent than the average fish, which is why they become proper pets, and they are partly curious about their new surroundings but also take a little time to settle in.
I feed large meaty food like mussel, squid etc and put it in an algae clip a couple of times a week just so I can see it feed. The other feeds throughout the week are either clams in the half shell, mysis or krill. You might need to try a few foods to begin with to find something it can't resist.

thank you for the info! And yes it hat was one of the first things I noticed about this little Toby. His curiosity and intelligence showed immediately lol

im happy to know that at least he is getting natural food from the Live Rock i have a variety of I think 4 or 5 different foods he was at my LFS for a little over a week they said he was eating mysis and his Half clam shell with the meat in there

so far I tried marine cuisine a lot of my new fish love that stuff,Rods original blend, fish eggs, brine shrimp and krill I usually break up the krill in little bits for my wrasse idk if the wrasse took the 3 extra pieces that was left there after they was done or the Toby did have not tried squid or mussels yet my LFS don’t have any right now

is there a website you recommend with decent shipping price I can order?

Sorry I'm in the uk so can't recommend a site to buy from but I just get most of my food from my local supermarket. They sell seafood mixes for human consumption and you make sure it doesn't have anything like flavouring added to it.

The chances are it is picking up any frozen, that the wrasses miss, that get stuck in the rocks. When I feed my tank the puffer scours the rocks for an hour or so after I've fed completely ignoring everything else.

I'd be confident you will suddenly get a feeding response when it gets hungry and then it will feed strongly after that.

Thanks unfortunately he died yesterday..LFS said they will help me out to replace him

second attempt I’m going to try and acclimate a little longer and maybe by cups instead of drip

also I’ve seen many people feed like you said from the supermarket I don’t have to wash the shrimp or clean it out ? Like as it we would be eating it? Raw or cooked

Sorry to hear it passed away.

You don't need to do anything with supermarket shrimp unless you buy it whole (as with shell on large shrimps/prawns, small ones can be good for puffers teeth so leave the shell on), many times its been processed so we only need to cook it for ourselves, fish on the other hand just need it defrosted as raw is what they would naturally eat.

Best of luck with another.
