Blue spotted jawfish vs midas blenny

Hello all. I have a 20 gal aquarium and I have the following fishes-
2 Ocellaris clownfishes
1 yellow clown goby
1 candy basslet
and a few inverts that stay really small
Now I want to add either a midas blenny or a blue spotted jawfish to my nano and the contender must be more-
1. Reef safe
2. Easy to care for
3. Personable and dog-like

BSJ needs a bigger aquarium, and u will need to have deep sand bed and temp in low 70’s or lower for any chance at success. I have had my BSJ for 2 yrs. Section of tank had sand depth at 7 inches and temp at 70. If u really want one, will need to shape entire tank around its needs.

id go blue spot jaw however quarantine first or find a very trusted source. bsj disease got me after i qt'd for 2 weeks and didnt notice anything/didnt medicate.

Also, whichever one of these you get, make sure you have a TIGHT lid, and i mean tight! I have a 1/8th inch gap around the overflow box and my lid. I found my midas baking ontop of the netting monday morning : /

General consensus on BSJ disease is that it is a result of keeping them at incorrect temp (too warm). Not truly a disease that can be treated in QT.

Midas Blenny, for sure. The kind of deep sand bed a bjs needs is very hard to manage properly for a beginner, and with the fish you already have, I don't think you can have your water temperature at 70.

Neither. A Midas might bully the candy basslet in such a small tank and there is a photo of a blue jaw with a firefish in its mouth.

Someone here just had thier Midas bullying their yellow basslet in a much larger tank. That the basslet just hid all the time. Midas sometimes hate other planktivors.

I would be protecting that investment and make sure it was comfortable!

A yellowhead jawfish is smaller and personable. Handles reef temps well and will be fine with just a few inches to sand bed and lots of rubble.
