Indo-Pacific - Islands of the Indopacific including Fiji, Tonga, Solomon Islands, and the Great Barrier Reef.
Medium to high lighting is recommended for best coloration and overall health.Moderate to high water movement is recommended.Sympodium relies heavily on the products of their zooxanthellae but also may feed on phytoplankton and similarly sized microfauna in the water column.

It used to be farely rare in the hobby. But now,Thanks to aquaculture(hooray for aquaculture),its availability has gone up and the coral its self is hardier than it used to be.
