Hey, I was just at my local pet world and noticed there's a blue tang with ich. It's about an inch long, so I'm considering getting it. I'm currently treating two clowns in a 10g for ich, so could I add it in for treatment too? Don't worry, I am setting up a 75g in 2 months. I know 75 is too small but if I end up "curing" the tang I'll just take it to a better store for credit or something. Is it an option for me? If it gets healthy quickly I have a 20g that it'll do fine in until the bigger tank. Thanks, please no rude answers, just opinions.

Although not ideal of course the tang will be fine in the 10g for treatment and the 20g for the duration it takes to rehome it. Just keep in mind that you will need to reset the clock for the clowns as well, and be aware that they are at risk if the tang has anything else aside from ich. If you do purchase it and successfully treat it I would encourage you to rehome it yourself rather than take it back to another LFS where it will just get reinfected.

Fish are not really a good investment for getting a sick one and nursing it back for credit. Focus on your current fish. Hone your skills and be patient. Once you are more skilled at these processes, even then it's not really wise to get a fish you don't plan on keeping.

And you will need to remove the copper in the current QT before adding the tang so that you can slowly adjust him to it.

If this is a factor in your decision then yes, you will gain nothing except potentially helping the fish. And another note, keep in mind that next time you go in the store there will just be another blue tang with ich unfortunately.

It's not at all about getting credit, it's about helping the fish. It also will be in a 75g until it gets too big too. I'll do the best I can with treating it too, proper acclimation and all.

If this is one of your first forays into qt, focus on your current fish and develop your skills before adding more fish to the equation. It only helps the tang if you are successful at qt.

I quarantined all the fish/corals/inverts in my system so I should be able to handle it.

Buying a fish in hopes of setting up another tank is irresponsible. You should take advice from people that have been in this hobby for some time with real experience. You asked a question and you got an answer. Im not interested in arguing with you so good luck.

Still feel bad for it, if I can handle it (which I'm pretty confident that I can) why not?
You qt'd your corals, inverts, and fish, yet your fish still got ich and you don't know why. Your qt protocol has a flaw and you don't know where. Focus on your current fish.

I'm not setting up the tank for the blue tang. I already have everything I need but the tank. Currently cleaning out pukani, I have the sand I'm using, I have the filter, lights, everything I need. The tank will be finished cycling by the time the tang would get out of quarantine so I see no issue. I am taking advice from people that have been in the hobby, most have said do it if I think I can, and a few said don't because for some reason don't think I'm prepared for it. Not trying to argue, just wanted some extra opinions.
