Apparently my blue tang has developed a taste for my dragon eye zoas. how do I stop it from eating the whole colony and other zoas?

Mine does the same at times to few zoas but leaves others. Its weirdly related to his mood, he can leave them untouched after they grow but if I move the rock a not he goes and shreds them, or if I miss a feeding ....

Once a fish discovers a new food source like your zoanthids, it will continue going back to them until they are gone. Then they will likely move on to the next colony.
It's happened to me twice.

that sucks hope I can change his mind with feeding more often

Perhaps catch him and isolate him for a while feeding him exclusively Other foods. Basically try to get him to forget about the Zs.
