Blue tang growth

no it doesn't lol. They stop growing in smaller tanks because they become stressed and stop eating and eventually starve...
It does. It's why when fish from smaller tanks seem to grow quickly when added to a larger one. Their growth was being slowed in the previous tank. At least that's what I found reading what I could about the subject.

Sadly we’re not blessed with the big American homes over here in the UK ;) We need to make due with smaller tanks.. And smaller tangs!
I live in an 1100 square foot single story home so by no means large. For years I had 2 180 gallon tanks in the living room, a 150 gallon in the dining area, and a reefer 170 in the bedroom. It's all about priority. It also helps having an understanding girl friend who make less money that I do :face-with-tears-of-joy:

theres a chance your clowns chased everything else out. Those guys can be mean lol
I’ve never seen them chase anything during the day and as soon as the lights go out they do their little sideways sleeping.

They still grow, its just that you have a sick, stressed fish that is eating and thus growing less. If you wanna treat your animals like that you can, but I see no reason to. Theres no biological response for a reef fish to stop growing because its tank is too small.

Standard goldfish can grow to be over a foot and 20 years old. Seldom see them that large or old though.

Yes good point. I’ll have a look for other fish
I say that kinda from experience. I knew better but i bought a chromis and a social fairy and plopped em in my 25g. The social paced the tank all day. Up and down and the chromis became a bully. It really sucked - i think i can say that here? About a week after i put em in i realized theyd have to be rehomed. That became another hassle.

Yeah that’s fair enough that’s why I decided to ask on here first

well, i do have a baby blue tang in my 50g tank.
It grows pretty fast but is a model citizen and looks super happy swimming with the 3 chromis :) Id say it doubled its size within 3 months.. it was maybe 1inch and is now close to 2 inches.. still super happy and not aggressive at all..

But if it outgrows my tank I will move/rehome it to my friends tank which is 800g and built in December.

I enjoy it every day.. (it was bought by my wife and I didnt know it tbh)

Aye you must have! :p Glad you’re making it work; its nice to have a hobby together!
…. over here we dont even know how much 1100 square feet is; you see- we use square meters up here in where i’m from ;)

It is nice. She actually "sold" me the wall where she had all her knick knacks displayed so I could put another tank up. She's a keeper for sure. 1100 square ft is about 103 square meters.

To the OP I would be hesitant to bring in a fish that you know you are going to have to rehome later. Myself I tend to get attached to my critters and like to keep them long term. Unless they become a problem that is then I do what's best for the group.

1 100 square foot = 102.193 344 square meter

180 gallon [US, liquid] = 681.374 121 12 liter

150 gallon [US, liquid] = 567.811 767 6 liter

Haha cheers mate!! Thats about the size we have here split over two stories.. I have managed to convince the control tower to fit a 4 x 2 x 2 in here.. Thats it! Will never have a larger tank here..

The struggle is real! We’re making a stock list for a 4 x 2 x 2 foot tank curently, lots and lots of compromise indeed!
That’s a 120 square ….
even though it’s a 4’ tank it’s 120 gal of volume .
Before the 230 upgrade I was looking for that exact same tank

I’d think of another type of Fish. .
They do grow fast and large .

and the cost of fish , I would personally hate to purchase something to watch it grow just to give it away later
