Hi all
I am pretty new to marine tanks and trying to learn as much as I can from all sources available, so please bare with me if some of my questions seem silly or knowledge isn't great

I bought a established marine tank about 6 weeks ago which came with 2 x clown fish, 1 x blue tang, 1 x fox face, 1 x blend, 2 x chromes

It is a Red Sea max 250

I recently added some more live rock and a 6 line wrasse

but since then My blue tang has some really worrying signs

I went away for the weekend a came back to find my skimmer tube had twisted so wanted working all weekend, 2 days later the blue tang was very slow moving and had a real cloudy eye, I did a 50% water change, since then she has been back to helfself and her eye has cleared up but she seems to have major skin problems, which looks horrific, can anyone shed any light on this or give me advice please ??

I haver carried out all the water test and they have been uploaded in a photo,

Thanks in advance

Did you try feeding it nori seaweed? They require lots of veggies. My blue tang was fading in color then I add seaweed to its diet, now it's extremely blue, even purple freckles on its head, gained size. Try the nori on a clip, check water parameters. I keep 2 cleaner shrimp to act as a medic and keep my tangs healthy.

Let’s get the #reefsquad on this. What tests are you using? There shouldn’t be any ammonia.

Agree, the ammonia and nitrite should be zero but I don't think that's what's causing this!

I've never seen sloughed skin areas that big(at least that's what it looks like). I'm guessing it's a bacterial infection. If it is it's likely the other fish will get it too, at least in my limited experience.

There’s definitely a serious bacterial infection going on. It’s possible he’s got flukes given the cloudy eye or even brook.

You should get a QT ready for the tang. Give it an acriflavine bath, then follow with furan 2-metro-kanaplex trifecta or if you happen to have Spectogram (nitrofurazone) http://www.americanaquariumproducts.com/Aquatronics.html

Considering the infection is so advanced I would repeat acriflavine baths at least 2-3x spaced 24hrs.

I just zoomed the photo. It's most likely a fungal infection or metal contamination.

Hello Rick & welcome to R2R ! The fish looks pretty bad for sure. However You say he's still swimming around & eating I hope. Ya really need to improve it's diet . Pellets & flake won't get it .
what are you feeding the gang? They all need some decent frozen food . Please try some algae If the tang won't eat nori from a clip or rubber banded to a rock then cut it up & mix with the food It should eat it if it's free floating.
The reef squad will be here soon . They will tell ya what's going on & how to treat it. As your just starting out, a QT is impractical for you . I think it's bacteria of some kind & you can treat the whole tank. Certainly be good for every body .
Now I'm not the expert at all ! The reef squad is & they will help.. Good luck !

Thanks for all your advice, I don't have a QT tank but am trying to see if anyone local has one I could borrow or put him in, In the mean time I have purchased some American Marine Selcon Vitamin Supplement - 60 mL / 2 oz to dose all the food in and hope this extra boost to his food might help

Thank you all for your advice
I bought some different treatments which all arrived yesterday.
Unfortunately yesterday morning i could not see my blue tang anywhere. I then had to go to work for the day but when I got home I removed all the love rock and there was no signs at all of her. So I guess she must have passed then got eaten ??!?
Is this normal

Depend on your clean up crew, she may have found a pocket or small cave in a piece of rock and gone in there. Double check everything.
