Hey everybody, long time lurker, first time I’ve come across an issue I’m not finding a clear answer on. Today looking at my saltwater tank I noticed my blue tang appeared to be eating some frozen shrimp, but I haven’t given frozen food today so upon closer examination it appears to be a white, stringy substance, coming out of her mouth and connecting from the gills. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Here are some more photos. She’s very active, she’s trying to spit it out it looks like, but it’s seems to be fused together from gills and mouth. Not to sound gross or anything, but it’s like a snotty membrane

My first instinct is to do a fresh dip, and then see if I can pinch off some of it before putting her back in... thoughts?

Welcome to R2R!

This appears to be a gram + bacterial infection. It looks similar to Brook as well with a secondary infection.

30 min formalin bath and then move to a QT and treat with antibiotics for 14 days. Metroplex, Furan-2, and Kanaplex. This will cover both Brook and the infection.

I second this exactly.

Man, you just never know what you'll see on a fish. It does look like a bacterial infection of some sort, but it's kinda hard to tell as the pics are a little blurry.
