My blue tang has unusual black marks covering his body. It does not look like ich. Otherwise, his behavior is normal. Is he sick?

but wouldn't velvet affect my clowns too?
Clowns wouldn't be as stressed as a tang in a small tank. Immune systems are greatly affected by stress and environment. Like i said though. I'm not an expert of any sort when it comes to these things.

It would either be velvet of HLLE from the looks of things. Do you have a hospital tank set up? Either way treatment will be necessary

Hopefully others chime in. I like trying to help the best I can. However I just don't have the experience to do so.

Maybe some more information.
Are you running carbon?
Fishes diet?
Water params?

I see these questions come up in threads asking about HLLE. This can help someone with experience help you quicker. I am no expert either just bumping for you.

I am running carbon in filter
I feed marine flakes (it has garlic)
Water parameters are all good

If this is HLLE (not an expert), you may want to remove the carbon, and add to the fishes diet. Put some Nori in the tank for the tang, and you can start soaking the food in vitamins to help.
This is just some information I found online from a previous expert here.

Throw the flakes in the trash and get some nori and other frozen foods. Just my opinion. I'm sure will anger others.

where do i get nori from? just the one they sell at the supermarket? I'm scared that its processed... is that alright for the fish?

LFS will stock it or can order online. Order some LRS or Rods food while you're at it.
