hey guys I have a question I have a 75 gallon tank and I know you’re not suppose to have a blue tang in something that small however I plan on getting a 180+ going in winter early spring so I’m just wondering how fast do these grow and about what size would you say isn’t safe to be in the 75 because I’m currently looking at a 3” one and just wondering what you guys think

You should be okay within 5-6 months.

Should be fine for a year, but IMHO I would just wait and buy it for the tank you have. One less fish to transfer, stress out, etc. When I did my tank transfer I sure appreciated having only 2 fish to move over. Catching them on the fly can be a real pain.

Is there a good sub for a blue tang. We have a BioCube 32 and the kids really want Nemo/marlin/dory/ and her parents. I was thinking about yellow tail damsels

They are generally pretty aggressive little guys— I have avoided all Damsels because of that alone.

Depending on what else is in the tank, a yellow tail damsel is a great substitute. Clowns (which are also damsels) may be a bit of a gamble...but worth trying in my opinion.

When you get your bigger tank, be aware that he can also out grow that one if there is a lot of mature coral and not much swimming room. A friend of mine had that happen in his 6' tank.

A Wantanabei angel would be a good reef safe larger blue fish, Azure and yellow tail damsels are beautiful too.

I have all of those in my 6' tank. I got a royal gramma instead of a damsel. It's a lot more peaceful. No more yellow tail damsels for me. I learned the hard way years ago not to add another one. It took taking out every bit of my rock work to get him out.
