I have a blue throat trigger that circles a mp40 all the time. He will leave it to eat though. We have had him for about three months.

Could it be that she is seeing herself in the glass?

I thought about placing plastic on the outside of the tank.

Triggers can be really weird sometimes. I know repetitive behaviors can be signs of stress, but if you can't figure out what could be stressing her then it could just be that she's a trigger. I have personally had crosshatches and sargassums, and they will just do strange things sometimes without explanation.

I'm not sure if that would knock down the "mirroring" that happens on the inside glass. Try it and let us know if it helps.

I do have a hippo that aggressive towards the blue throat if he wonders out in the water column.

I realize this thread is old, but I was curious @WVReefJunkie if your trigger continued that same behavior since you posted? And, If so, how long did it continue? Did it stop? Or do you have any subsequent observations?

I have a blue throat trigger in a completely peaceful 6 foot reef tank, and he does the same thing continuously! I even turned the power off to that one powerhead thinking he liked the sucking of the water into it, but he still kept doing laps around it. He doesn't do it to any if the other 3 powerheads I have. Just the one on the far side of the tank. So odd.
