My Triggerfish I’ve had for over 6 months I walk up to the tank to see has become crab food... I don’t understand what happened my parameters are fine. He was always very shy but ate all frozen food offered. So frustrating to not know why he went from fine to gone with no sign of an issue.

90 gallon, it’s been up for about a year. Scopes Tang, Melanuras wrasse, Maroon Clown and Chromis. No QT but he’s been in the tank for months...

No. The only thing I can point to is a 15 gallon water change. But I didn’t figure that would be an issue...

What size is your sump if you have one? And have you done 15 gallon wafter changes Regularly?
Perhaps something went wrong with that water change?

Trigger 26, I had went about a month or so without a water change but all other fish are fine.

He could of been stressed out from the time difference in water change perhaps. How often is your normal water change bracket?

After many years I’ve come to the conclusion that for no apparent reason a fish will just die. Sure there is a reason for the death but for some you will never really know. Maybe it just had a heart attack.

I have the blue throat trigger curse. i can keep sensitive fish like Achilles and tamarin wrasse but not the blue throats.

1st. died for no apparant reason three weeks in.
2nd got scared, dove into rock and dislodged a big piece...crushing himself in the process
3rd got himself stuck way in a recess of rock and starved to death.

finally I decided that even though I live triggers... I am destined not to have one.

sorry to hear about yours.

Water change shouldn't affect only the trigger. It's a little strange. Are any fish scratching?

That may be true to a certain extent but some fish are just hardier than others and can withstand changes in the water vs others who may not.
It is possible something may have
Been wrong with him and it took just that month or so duration for a water change to stun him?

No I haven’t seen any behavior change. I mean he was extremely shy fish who barely came out for the first month. So I just think he never adjusted to aquarium life maybe?
