I have had my blue tuxedo urchin for about a month but just noticed this weird orange spot on it, I’m worried it’s a parasite. I have a 55 gallon tank, lots of other invertebrates, 10 fish, and plenty of algae for the urchin to eat. All my water parameters are at 0ppm. I’m scared that it’s hurt!

I can’t tell for sure by the picture, but it almost looks like a flatworm or maybe it just picked something up? Have you tried to take the urchin out and get it off?

No i havent tried, im nervous that i’ll hurt his little clear leg things, or his spines

Okay, i tried to see what it was but there are no spines in the area, and kinda looks like a lesion, it was kinda like a hole on the urchin’s “skin/surface”

Weird... I don’t have much experience with them, I only had one for a year or so and he kept picking up all my corals so sold him back lol, but hopefully someone else chimes in. I would just keep a close eye on him and hopefully it just goes away on its own. I wouldn’t be too worried at the moment

If the Urchin starts to drop spines or doesn’t try to camouflage ( pick up random stuff) then you should be worried but as long as the urchin has it’s spines ( in the areas that aren’t wounded
or the orange spot) then you should not be worried. Looking at the pictures the urchin looks good, it’s climbing on the walls and has its spines in my opinion the urchin does have a wound or cut but overall looks good, it’s spines are nice and full and it’s climbing on walls which shows it’s active. Just make sure all parameters are in check and salinity is good. Other than that enjoy the urchin in your tank, I love my blue tuxedo urchin he’s definitely a favorite in my tank. Also I do believe that the urchin will heal over time but not regrow spines but that’s my opinion.
