Hey reefers,

Who here has experience with blueface Angelfish in a reef?

Zoas of course are on the menu, but how did Blueface do with your SPS and LPS, specifically Euphyllia and acropora.

It seems that the adults do better than juveniles...

What’s your experience? Thanks!!!

Yup! I’m going to roll the dice with a mixed reef. Mostly acros & Euphyllia. Fingers crossed.

Well I’ll let you all know how this little adult does in my mixed reef (mostly acros & euphyllia) when he’s done with QT in a week or so. :)

I’m looking for another angel to add to mine .
was thinking of a blue ring but again.
I think there are some they corals they prefer .
Mine is mostly all sps and euphillia .
Lps are all in my sump .

Blue ring are very nice, underrated too.

with the sps, there’s a good variety Of “safer” angels to pick from. But the euphyllia are tricky, with some individuals can slurp them down.
I found blueface there’s a decent chance... emperors, regals better chance

My emperor doesn’t touch euphillia .
but lobo , Acan and green palythoa are his favourite .
Hasn’t touched any sps either

Any update on this?

Hey VJM,

i’m sad to report that this blueface never ate and did not make it through a non-medicated quarantine. So I have no experience to report here.

This was an unfortunate loss.. I tried almost everything to get her to eat.

That too bad. Did look a tad thin in your photo.

Yep. It became apparent the fish was already not eating when I received it when you look at the sunken cheek bones.

but for those researching, blue face adults seem to be safer bets for sps & non-meaty LPS tanks.

Sorry to hear that. I just removed a juvenile today. I added some new sps frags last night , and the blue face just went to town on them. It must have been picking at some sps colonies in my tank, but I never saw it happen (I also had a dino outbreak). It never touched euphyllia (I have a lot of hammer, frogspawn, and trumpets).

In the picture you can see sunken cheekbones. The fish wasn’t eating for some time by the time I received it and never ate under my watch. Not even clams on the half shell, live brine or bloodworms.

Shouldn’t have been sold.

Blueface will likely get after LPS. SPS you may have a chance. Safe to say goodbye PE at the least.

Did you ever try again with a blue face in your reef?
