So I just got this guy 2 days ago. I did notice that when I added him to the qt that he didn't appear to eat. However I know his whole world was just changed so I didn't think much of it. However this morning I noticed what appears to be ich :(. I do have cupramine which I am planning on treating him with. However I was hoping someone could look at the photo's and confirm that I am on the right track. I mean I know cupramine will kill ich and or marine velvet. But was hoping for a second opinion. Also he still has not really shown interest in food and I am worried that adding the copper will decrease that even more. I have put some food in however he doesn't appear to be going after it unless he is eating it when it sinks. Never had an angel before so I don't know if that is just how they eat or not. I assume I should start treatment now and continue for 30 days ? Also should I take our the bio media and sponge out of my aquaclear filter or just take our the carbon.

It does look like ich. Just remove the carbon. You need a seacheam copper test kit with cupramine. When I treat angels, I ramp up the copper slow. Do you have any raw shrimp, you can try and feed. It would be nice to get it eating first.

So I have been trying to feed him mysis shrimp I also have LRS fish frenzy that I have been trying to feed him as well. No luck do you think that he may eat a regular raw shrimp ? Should I try hand feeding it to him. He still hides in his tubes for the most part but does come out when I have sat in my office for a while.

^^Agree with this. All of it. ;)

Your other options would be hypo or TTM, but since those DO NOT treat velvet (just in case that's what this turns out to be).....

Chloroquine phosphate would be ideal - all my angels have handled it very well. But that's very hard to get, especially on such short notice.

I guess I should also say I have formalin MS also not sure if that would help.

Also with adding garlic are we talking like garlic powder or is there a specific type of garlic for fish ?

If this turns out to be velvet (or brook), that will be useful to have on hand to administer as a 45-60 bath solution. But I don't like dosing formalin directly into a QT because it is a known carcinogen. Probably not good for the fish or for you (putting your hands in the QT, smelling the water, etc.)

Plain garlic juice from the grocery store works just fine. Or you can make your own by mashing up garlic cloves. Kent Marine sells "Garlic Extreme" for like $20. It's a ripoff but if you just want the convenience. ;)

don't try to hand feed, that will just scare the fish more. I use tiny pieces of raw shrimp. As for the garlic,I think its called garlic extreme, its an extract, in liquid form.

So I got the garlic extreme still didn't really show an interest in the food (raw shrimp) it does say that you could add it to the tank water to help make the fish unhungry...is that just rumor or have any of you had any luck with that ? I am starting copper now regardless hoping that maybe when the ick goes away that will make him more hungry.

ok so also another note. I was looking at him more closely and I noticed some white stuff around his lips. Could this be cotton mouth ?

Could be the beginnings of a bacterial infection, which is common in fish with a preexisting parasitic infestation. I would treat with copper plus an antibiotic (Kanaplex, Furan-2).
