I am setting up a 75 gal. tank with a 30 gal sump. I fell into a sweet deal on 2 blueline pumps on craigslist but since this is my first go with a sump set-up I am a bit wary on what to do. My LFS guy is all about Mag pumps but from what I can tell the external BlueLine will be quieter as well as produce less heat. The pumps I got are the 20HD which is rated at 480gph and the 40HD rated at 790gph. It is only about 5 feet from the bottom of the sump to the tank. I am concerned about the amount of flow I will have. Will either of these pumps work well for me or should I turn around and make a few dollars selling them? Any input would be appreciated.

Yes they will work! I would choose to have an external pump most of the time.

Thanks. But what about the flow? I understand it can be adjusted using a ball valve in the piping but I don't want to have so much that it is a fight to regulate it.

You will be EXTREMELY HAPPY with any or all of BL pumps. I have owned several and they are great pumps and at a nice price point IME. You can't go wrong!

Flow should be just right
at five feet of head it's only going to pump 600 gph if that they should have specs on their site
