Debating adding a bluethroat trigger. I've never kept triggers so I'm hoping to get some advice here before making the order.

I'm under the impression that these are the most likely reef safe of the triggers.

Couple of questions:

1. Are tuxedo urchins safe with these?

2. Do they need to be fed snails and crabs regularly for their ever-growing teeth or how is that typically taken care of?

Have a pair. Totally reef safe. Nothing special as far as food. Mine eat everything even lettuce and nori. Don’t bother a thing. Great personalities.

Great! I'm going to order one from Dr Reef today.

Thanks!

just make sure they go into a relatively large tank, 110 gallon plus

for the questions
1. no they wont eat an urchin
2. these guys dont have the same type of teeth as other non reef safe triggers, while they do grow they arent made for crushing shells like their relatives

Awesome
Thanks for the feedback, all. I ordered one male for a 170 gallon.

I've had a male Bluethroat trigger for close to a year. He's been an awesome addition to my tank. No aggression, no problem with corals or inverts. He's always right out front at feeding time. He eats everything; Nori, pellets, frozen mysis, krill, clams, shrimp. The last couple days he follows the food but doesn't eat it. He's still right out front at feeding time but doesn't eat or can't for some reason. No signs of stress, injury, illness, bullying, etc... Has anyone ever had to file their teeth? Is it possible his teeth have grown enough to cause him pain without it being obvious?
