Over the last few months I’ve been trying to get a healthy bluethroat trigger. Where i live outside the USA they make orders from Florida and from la wholesalers. I had a female several months ago and when I got her she looked malnourished. I thought probably parasites but i qtd and medicated and she continued downhill. She stopped eating and that was the end.

The retailer picked up 2 for me a week ago and neither survived in his store. Both just stopped eating and died. What is going on? Does anyone know how these fish are collected? Are these high risk cyanide candidates? Any advice to get my retailer to bring in a healthy one? Thank you.

I actually got a male blue throat about 3 months ago. I find that most of them come with flukes. I gave him a fresh water bath and they all came flying off. Several flukes were on the bottom of the container after a 7 minute dip. I put him in the QT and treated with general cure. He ate on the third day. After Qt FW dipped him again and A few flukes fell off. I returned him to QT and did another GC regimen. I dipped him again after and finally no flukes.I acclimated him to my display tank and he was very shy at first. He didn’t eat very well until 4/5 days later. Now he’s healthy and eating well. Hope this helps....Assume they all have flukes and follow the regimen and hopefully your will do as well as mine is now..Its worth the effort as they are really nice fish. Good luck..

Did you put general cure in his food or in the qt water? Also what size qt are you using? Thanks for the info. I figured flukes are a possibility but these fish didn’t last all leading me to think cyanide

I used general cure in both the 40gallon breeder QT and food. LiveAquaria’s prices are a bit on the high side but they have good specimens. WAit for their sales which they run regularly. I’m lucky to have a local LFS that gets nice bluethroats often. Good luck.

Cool man thanks for the input. When I was in the states last I picked up general cure so I’m good to go.

Don’t know what country you’re located, but Amazon has GC as well and they deliver to some countries. I always keep GC handy as I have found it to be very effective and non toxic when used as directed. Good luck.

I can't keep a female alive to save my life but I have had my male, healthy for about 1 year now. Good luck!

As you know the key is to start with a healthy specimen. I have had good luck with my LFS and LiveAquaria Divers Den especially. I love the male Bthroat. Gret fish and pretty passive for a trigger. He’s in with tangs and angels. Holds his own but definitely not real aggressive.
