When I realized my tunze 9004 wasnt going to work in my new red sea reefer 250 I looked at what others were using for their skimmer (that was within price for me.) Saw a lot of bubble magus curve 5. Read a lot of reviews. It's been up for MONTHS and still no skimmate or even microbubbles. I heard it can take awhile to break in or maybe the new set up was too clean... but this was set up maybe 8 months ago. I've set it all the way from Min- Max. I feel like I've been patient enough... What do I need to do to get it working*? I've taken it apart and reassembled a couple times but no difference.

*helpful answers only please.

I have the same mix. If you are not getting bubbles, then the Venturi is likely blocked. When a skimmer is breaking in, it usually overflows. Disconnect the hose from the skimmer at both ends and make sure the nozzle connected to the powerhead is not blocked. Most likely it is.

Amy idea why it might be blocked from the get go since I never got bubbles? (Curious.) I'll give it a whirl tomorrow.

I had the same issue. It is likely how thy are made. Manufacturing issue. If you look directly at that nozzle, you may see excess plastic blocking the hole. Unfortunately, you will still need to break your skimmer in even after you clear the blockage. Good luck nevertheless.

I"be had two different curve 5's.
one worked perfectly the whole time I used it.
Set up a new tank and got another curve5. Overflowed like crazy no matter what depth I had it in. Finally got fed up and bought a Nyos Quantum skimmer

Good points made about making sure all is clear. Another common problem is people install the bubble plate backwards. that clear plastic plate with the different size holes. The part of the plate where there are no holes goes where the water jets in.

Problem solved. @Mal11224 for the win. While I didn't see an obstruction in the nozzle, I stuck a nail in the hole... didn't see or feel anything break loose but when I put it back together bam! Microbubbles. Started pulling tea color skimmate in minutes.

Salt does buildup in the venturi inlet on the BM C5. Just another maintenance item.
