My BM NAC7 skimmer has been running fine, ive been cleaning it,and then I walk in tonight and the collection cup is overflowing with water. I turned it down to 1 and it still was overflowing with water.

Anyone know what is going on?

Thanks!

My NAC6 did the same thing, I think the air inlet just got clogged some how. I cleaned it and started it back up and its been doing fine. Didnt really see anything wrong,I guess it just had a brain fart. You didnt add any chemiclean or anything like that to your tank, did you?

Nope. I have not added anything that I had not before.

I would try running some fresh carbon. Any time that my skimmer has gone nuts, it was due to some sort of impurities that got into the tank (whether it be airborne cleaners, epoxy, interceptor, etc). After running some fresh carbon for a couple hours, hopefully that will alleviate your problem.

Ok I will try that 2mrw. Im cleaning the tank tuesday anyways,so I might just leave it off until then....

Im going to play with it some today, hopefully I can fix it..

No new filter socks or water conditioners?

Those will usually make skimmers act up too.

If the air intake is restricted, the skimmers water level will rise because the pump will be pushing more water and many times will cause an overflow. Check the venturi at the intake to see if there is carbonate build up inside. For me, overflows have usually been the air intake clogging, new socks or additives.

+1 for air inlet blocked. "Tube connected to the venturi" unscrew/unplug and blow through the hole, it should have no restriction, you can possibly even see some CA build-up. I use some old chopsticks and poke/push it out. rinse and your good.

WAIT. I added some red slime algae remover to the tank the same day the skimmer did this. Would this kind of chemical cause the overflowing?

Absolutely no doubt. I think it says right on the label to turn the skimmer off.

O I read the directions and didnt see the turn the skimmer off, then again I might have skipped a line:ooh:

Just cleaned the tank and guess what is still overflowing.....

Gotta run carbon and fresh carbon to get it back online... If ya want hang a bag inside the skimmer body it will calm it down faster... Mine tends to over flow when I clean also..

I added carbon.

But,after 4 consecutive overflows,it just stops. Maybe a start up or something? Even though its never done this before.
Atleast it fixed itself!

yeah sometimes when I'm messing in the tank, mounting corals and such my skimmer will go nuts and overflow. I just let it fill the cup a few times and it always works itself out within a few full cups, just have to make sure you have saltwater on hand to account for the lost water.
