Bo0sted 40b Build

Currently just using one Jebao PP-4 wavemaker and the VCA Random flow generator on the return nozzle.

Just curious because I noticed your blasto looks pretty happy. Mine has taken a nose dive since I put it in the 40B. Not sure what’s causing it. I will say the flow is way higher in the 40 than it was in the 10. I’m using two VCA RFGs and two OW-25s.

I would say mine gets about medium flow where it is. It's funny because in that picture the blasto is deflated looking compared to normal. It's normally huge.

This was a top down of them last waterchange. They are usually so fat you can't even see the centers.

There's also this blasto in there that I grew from the tiniest little booger that I bought for $5!

Now it has 30+ polyps on it and is bigger than a golf ball. Where as the red one some of its individual polyps are bigger than a golf ball!

I have one that looks almost exactly like that that made the transfer well. I wish I knew what the other one doesn’t like about the new tank.

I noticed your bio says you live in Vail. I lived in River Run for a while back in the 90s

Nice! It's still there today! I lived in town for a few years but have since moved down the highway about a half hour just outside of all the tourist action to a more permanent spot. Still work in between Vail village though.

Out on a quick lunch date my girlfriend and I stopped in to petco to pick up some fish food for her school cichlid tank, and we stumbled across something we have been searching for quite a while now. A Derasa Clam! Now quick back story here, our petco is the absolute worst when it comes to the saltwater department. Usually all coral frags are bleach white skeletons and most of the fish are thin, lethargic, or dead. But today was our lucky day they must have just unpacked a fresh delivery... so since the nearest decent fish store is over 2 hours away and never has anything but a good selection of fish and a few overpriced frags we decided to rescue this little clam. We have been looking for one for months now and even went to reefstock but all they had were one inch big Maxima's.

Here's our new rescue clam!

Long time since an update. The clam has been putting on some impressive growth for only a couple months

I also helped a friend move a 150g into his house, and he hooked me up with his 75g setup. So the past couple weekends I have been planning and building components for the upgrade.

Here is the setup I inherited.

I gave it a good scrubbing and vinegar soak to get the gunk off the glass but it was pretty heavily scratched and the silicone seals were peeling back from the glass, I had another 75g that I have had sitting in storage for the greater part of a year. I have been telling myself that I wouldn't upgrade again in such a short time since building my 40b but we all know how that goes right haha.

So I pulled the tank out of storage and drilled it for the overflow that I already had on the 40b. I bought the eclipse L oversized on purpose because I knew that the 40g was just a temporary upgrade.

Here are a few shots of the drilling process.

After successfully drilling the tank without shattering it I gave it a few coats of black on the back pane, installed the overflow and gave it a leak test.

Since I had the overflow that I needed for the 75g on the 40g which was still running I had to drain it half way and use an extra fluval hang on filter that I had laying around for about a week until all the PVC glue cured and I could find time to build a light fixture for the 75g. Here is how the 40g had to spend its final days.

With the 40g running with hang on equipment and the heaters in the display tank I had to quickly figure out what I was going to do for a light fixture. For those of you who have been following from the beginning know I love a good DIY project. The ocean revive fixtures are too wide to fit the aquatic life hybrid fixture.... so I decided to build my own. I already had one Ocean Revive and a 36 inch t5 retrofit kit. I will upgrade to a 48 inch kit but wanted to use the 36inch bulbs for a bit since they are still fairly new. So I ordered a second ocean revive and built the fixture out of angled aluminium.

Here are some pictures of the light fixture I built

With the frame assembled and painted it was time to mount the T5s and the LEDs and wire it all up

I am happy with how the hybrid fixture turned out! Now I can move all the livestock over to the new tank and get the brute can of live rock out of my house.

I may mess around with the scape a little bit but all the corals seem happy where they are right now. The candy cane is bigger than I've ever seen it and the blasto is puffing back up to its former glory.

Here are some shots from around the tank
