Hello would like to share the construction of my new saltwater tank although I do not have a tank yet. However hope to buy one this weekend at reefapoloza in New York. Did buy some dry rock from Carib Sea and built two scapes. My goal is to use as much of the rock as possible for filtration reasons. Will try to post photos.

Sweet! Have fun! Update us when you get the tank.

Good advice except the bucket isn’t coming in till Friday . One saving grace is I have a bag of live sand plus hope to also buy some live bacteria

Thought about wh You said and remember that I have two small buckets and will put in as much of the rock that will fit

Not sure about caribseas dry rock but it might be worth rinsing it first. My marco dry rock had alot of its small holes filled in with rock dust from the cutting of the rock, I hosed it off and soaked it in tapwater for a day and the amount of sediment in the bottom of the bucket was pretty insane, also alot more holes opened up on the marco. I refreshed the water and soaked it another 3 days then repeated one more time but with RODI this time then let it air dry completely.

If you want to get a headstart on curing/cycling the rock skip the drying part and then just put in some saltwater, keep it convered and add a small pump/powerhead and heater if needed.

If you plan on getting your tank this weekend I would just focus on the rinsing part.

EDIT: if its the caribsea seeded with bacteria a freshwater soak might not do be a good idea.

Thanks for your help.It is just dry rock not live rock plus I am soaking it in saltwater not bothering to heat at this time because it is in the garage and is plenty warm enough

Today we went to Petco to see what they had in saltwater fish unfortunately they had none, said they were changing their tanks. However they had Pacific Ocean seawater and I am wondering if this would help to cycle a new tank with instead of salt mix water. Anyone ever use this water or have any thoughts about it

Saturday afternoon went to reefapalooza and had a great time. Bought a tideline 20 gallon peninsula tank from Planet Aquarium. Also bought an A1 prime he light plus the bracket. Also bought a glass cleaner and two flat marco dry rock and Turbo start from Fritz. While talking to a vendor they said that I could add 2 clownfish after two days. Does anyone have experience doing this and was it successful.

Tomorrow will add two clownfish if I can find them as per Fritz instructions for turbo start. Will start posting daily on what happens

Good luck,hope all goes well.
If you going add fish to that new an aquarium even though adding bottle bacteria,it would be sensible to get a reliable amnonia test kit at minimum but nitrate also to show that the nitrogen cycle is indeed taking place.
As what i read above you say was going get some dry rocks and place in 2 small buckets without heaters as garage is warm enough.no mention of power heads so no flow but couldnt see you say you actually ever put any rocks in any water to start cycling so if you starting off with dry rock and adding bottle bacteria its good idea to test for amnonia which is toxic to fish just to make sure amnonia not in toxic levels to harm or possibly kill your fish.
But some actually use dry rock and add 0 bottle bacteria and cycle with fish ( which no need to do these days) but need to know tell tale signs of fish in distress from amnonia etc and do water changes when needed or test is easiest

Edit: just re- read you say above you have some live sand, maybe sometimes you have some die off from live sand and produces amnonia also from the 2 clownfish, either way reliable test kits still advised ^_^

Have test kits and will test frequently and did place the dry rock in saltwater with an air pump for a week . Just going by what Fritz says

Pacific Ocean seawater bottled water does not have any bacteria in it to support life. It's just premixed water with salt

You need a power head in with the rocks and water to move it around...not an air head

Don't buy a power head from Petco/Petsmart. You will over pay there. Order a Jabeo powerhead on ebay or amazon

Thanks for your replies did not buy the premade water from Petco after talking with reef2reef at reefapalooza

Also the rocks are now in my tank. When mixing saltwater will i still need a power head instead of the air pump. If so wish I would have known before Saturday because i bought a sicce for twenty bucks would have bought two

Either should work fine when mixing saltwater you just want good water movement in bucket or whatever you choose to use to mix it in.
