I filled my new setup, my first with a sump, with tap water to test my plumbing and all. I've got a 1 1/2" durso overflow that goes into a 1" bulkhead and the top end is fairly quiet, but the water going into the sump really 'boils' with air and makes quite a racket. I can't find any info on what is going on so I can't figure out how to fix it! Any insight is greatly appreciated!

Is it flex to sump? is it entering sump above the water line? does it have a muffler on the overflow at the top or a way to breathe? Gota pic or two?

I've got filter sponges on the end of mine to keep down the noise.

Those bubbles need diffused (that the right term for this?). A filter sock, or some sponge material where the water is outputting is what is needed. Some people just take regular poly floss and wrap it around the end of the tubing into the water, then rubber band off the end to have a poly floss filter sock.

Or you can do this to the pipe that's going to the sump. It's easy just have the pipe go in at a 45 degree angle and drill 3 big holes

Thanks for looking, It is 1" hard pipe from the tank-bottom bulkhead, goes below the sump waterline (tried multiple depths from shallow to deep), the durso overflow has a vent hole that I've varied, sump pic below.

RM & tigrtraps, thanks for the ideas, I'm trying everything I can!

Thanks for the idea! It didn't quite work with the 1" drain, but when I stepped it up to 1 1/2" at the 45 it made a big difference. I still get some bubbling, and noise, but not as bad, I'll keep tinkering with it. It is only under the water level an inch or so, I'll try taking it deeper and see what that does.

Also remember that fresh water makes more noise that salt water growing through the pipes and after the pipes get some slime on them you prob are not gonna get any more bubbles.

Thanks for the info, I thought the fresh water might make a difference but wasn't sure.
