I'm listening to this, and I have to believe my english understanding is very very bad, because this Doug guy have to be talking about magic in a reefing podcast...

What is the right side axis and blue graph lines?

Did you track alkalinity during this time?

Ive been running bolus for months so yes.
the dip on 12-10 was from acidental carbon dosing early morning

right side axis with blue graph is the Amp from my lights to show my lights did not change.

did some salifert test but not tracking like every hour or something

Do you carbon dose as well? Was that accidental carbon overdosing or dosing in general?

The 14/10 at 12:00, the pH is 8,06

The 15/10 at 12:00, the pH is 8,01. So the 15/10 the pH before dosing is less : how do you explain this ?

Is it possible for you to dose NACO3 24 times a day please, to see the impact on PH with NA2CO3 ? thanks

Do you know how much you dosed both days, and what all day dosing means?

Given the baseline pH at the beginning of each day, I don't see as much of an overall statistical difference as it looks at first glance. Also, the lights look to be setup actually a good bit differently on those two days.

Just a quick and dirty overlay... I tried to highlight the red quickly... can do a better job if needed but still working today.

Open to explanations.

I’m certainly interested to see what effects bolus dosing might have, and encourage folks to give any results they have.

That said, we know that pH is strongly tied to alkalinity. The question that arises from the above data, in my mind, is what is the alk in both cases. Presumably it is higher after bolus dosing than at any time with the spread out dosing.

But imo, another needed comparison is alk maintained 24/7 at that higher alk attained in bolus dosing..

dosed the same amount at random moments troughout the day

Thanks. Knowing the alk is important to determine if the effect is what one expects to see from higher alk, or if there is something special about the bolus aspect.

You are using the original FM KH Mix? Have you seen this „tabletop effect“ of the alkalinity? I am using regular bicarb and the alkalinity just rises directly to the expected value. Nothing like it was explained by Claude and Doug. This is what makes some people (me included) nervous as its generally considered to keep alk stable (Claude says he doesn‘t understand where this thought is coming from).
Have you seen bigger swings? Did corals react to the bolus dosing?

My Montis, Stylo and LPS do not mind the current daily 1.2dKh swing but I am not sure about the Acro frags that I received yesterday…

Yes im using the FM KH Mix!

Bolus doing its thing for me! higher and more stable PH than i ever had when using 2-part with kalk in this house,
only the PH part makes it already worth for me!
Corals are loving it. got great color and growth but its hard to tell if its so much better than what i had before.

A few months back i posted all my measurments on how much i dose and the raise i saw with salifert.
It just takes a lot of my time away to write these measurments overhere witch is oke but the fun of this gets taken away and its starting to feel kinda pointless if some people overhere stating i am cheating with my measurments/posts i make.

I am not going to hunt through 62 pages to find an answer to a simple question, It takes the fun out of it.

First rule of Bolus Method - dont talk about alk.

I have nothing against bolus dosing of bicarbonate, if you like it, but I am super skeptical of that statement being generally true, and you showed no data on that comparison. It makes no sense.

As I have said over and over in this thread, one needs to know what one is comparing to. There are all sorts of permutations one could try, even if bolus dosing is your thing. For example, bolus dosing of carbonate and the effect on alk levels.

If you are referencing my post in response to your graph, then maybe you could just try to explain in context to my comments?

Thanks!
