Being my first reef tank, and a journey of discovery, I place a monti high up in my nano tank, not realizing how quickly it would grow. Within a few months it was shading the blastos and scans, so I started pruning it like a tree; this has produced a very interesting shape that allows all of the corals to get the light they need.

Anyone else prune their montis? Pics please!

Yes, I am constantly breaking off pieces to allow coral below to get light. I just place those pieces in other crevices.....needless to say, I have a lot of monti coral in my tank lol.

Used to prune mine from time to time, in my nano. They are pretty weak when it comes to warfare, and most of the time they end up getting pruned by another coral, but if you have shading issues then cutting them back is a must.

Excuse the weird pic, was experimenting half LED, half t5 at the time.
