I put a Bonsia frag in my tank last year and it was doing great. A few months ago I got the dreaded dino's. I was able to beat the dino's after a few weeks but it wiped out 2 acro colonies and most of the Bonsia. I had to cut away the skeletal remains because it was an algae magnet. What's left now is the encrusting Bonsia that's starting to branch out a bit. The problem is the part I cut away has exposed skeleton that gets covered with HA after a few days. I'm scrubbing that area with a toothbrush to keep it clear of algae in hopes of tissue growing over it. Should I continue or is there something else that I can do?
I tried to take a picture with my phone but it looks terrible. Imagine a fried egg on top of a rock, that's what it looks like. The egg white being the encrusting tissue on the rocks and the yolk is the exposed skeleton with algae growing on it.

Personally I would cut away the dead skeleton snd just leave the live section. If you are really getting hair algae that fast you should look into increasing your CUC and/or nutrient management.

I made it sound worse than it is. The DT is pretty much clear of algae except for the spot on the Bonsia and another very very small ( pencil eraser size) tuft of HA on a rock nearby, the only two spots it grows in the DT. I have HA in the sump and I'm running an ATS that I clean every week.
I'll see if I can cut away the skeleton, but that frag was solidly glued into place and my rockscape is stacked loose so I'm afraid of handling it roughly and having the rocks fall. If I'm not able to cut away the skeleton, is there something I can put on that area to keep algae from growing? I vaguely remember reading about something like this and it was suggested to put something (antibiotic?) on it to keep algae off, for the life of me I can't remember what forum it was in and a search in all of them didn't help.
