I'm wondering if anyone can identify this squishy critter. I was trying to take a picture of my very shy fire shrimp and noticed this little guy after the fact. Any thoughts as to what it is?

There is a chance that that is a majano anemone.....a pest anemone. Google to verify that is what you have.

Welcome to R2R!

That little guy looks like a zoanthid or palythoa polyp, which are soft corals. A closer photo could help, if possible, but it doesn't appear to be a majano to me.

I can't seem to identify it being a Majano anemone. Most images I see show it to be either brown, with long tentacles. This is an image I found. I guess I have to wait until I get home and hope it's still there to make certain.

Thanks for the welcome cparka23! I do have a Tuxedo Urchin who decided to place some Xenia Coral on its back... and there was something else there as well but couldn't see what it was. It has a lot of Xenia on its back. It's almost comical.

This is my Tux Unchin, he has had the Xenia on him for weeks.

It could be a paly or zoa...but there is a chance for it still being majano. If you touch it, does it close up quickly? If so, majano. If not, most likely paly or zoa.

I shouldn't have said anything. XD Never seen a majano in my life. I assumed (apparently incorrectly) that it would look more like an aiptasia does.

Proceeding with caution.

That seems like a good test to me. I will try that when I get home tonight. I looked at it again this morning and it had detached from the rock where it was and now is in the sand. I got a good look at the bottom of it and it is smooth and light milky brown. It's not transparent and has short stubby tentacles with bright florescent green tips. The tips taper to a point - not bubble like.

If I touch it and it closes up immediately, I wont take my chances and I will remove it. But if it stays open, you think I should keep an eye out on it or still remove it to be safe? I would hate to remove a bonus coral.

Every picture I see of aiptasia shows it to have long brown translucent tentacles with a long body. This critter has a short stubby body and is milky in color.

Additionally, looking at images of majano, they seem to have two or more sets of tentacles, round and bubble like.

This is what it mostly looks like both closed, and opened. (Image found on the interwebs)
